Meet the Growers

Agustin Cardenas

Agustin Cardenas was first introduced to farming while working in the fields when he moved from Mexico to the United States in 1984. Agustin’s passion for growing fruit for people led him to lease and later purchase the land from his employer’s ranch. Delight in Agustin’s bright smile and infectious laugh while he shares the struggles and successes of organic farming.

The Peterson Family

Father-son duo Vern and Erik Peterson grow tree fruit including peaches, plums, nectarines, and even persimmons. Together, they carry on the 100-year family tradition of dedication to soil health and farmworker fairness. The Peterson Family was the first stonefruit farm to become Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) certified and the first fresh produce farm in the world to earn Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) at the Gold level.

Pipco Fruit Company

For more than 70 years the Paul family has farmed in California’s Central Valley as Pipco Fruit Company. John Paul, the fourth generation, is growing organic stonefruit and continuing the family farming legacy. Stephen Paul, a third-generation farmer and Homegrown Category Director joins his son on the farm.

France Ranch

You may find a familiar face in farmer John France. John and Cindy France are the family farmers that founded Homegrown Organic Farms back in 1998. They were also among the first growers in California to go organic when they certified their family farm, France Ranch, in 1989. Homegrown transitioned to an ESOP in 2021, but France Ranch continues to grow EFI-certified organic grapes and citrus.

Our employee volunteer group, Cultivating Care, has hosted various year-round programs to provide and care for the community. Through these programs, the group has provided meals, donations, and services to support the local communities.

Celebrating 25 Years of Organics

Organic fruit is our passion. Our founding farmers were among the first citrus growers in California to go organic when they transitioned their family farm in 1989. Today, we represent more than 100 organic growers in the fresh produce market with over 8,000 acres of organic fresh fruit.

Caring for the Land

To return what the soil abundantly provides.

As stewards of the land we protect and restore ecosystems through organic and regenerative organic farming practices. Farming below the soil promotes an environment where microorganisms thrive, further enriching the soil to grow more flavorful and nutrient-dense foods.

Caring for the Environment

We hope to cultivate opportunities for future generations.

That’s why we focus on protecting natural resources in our facilities and on our farms. We continuously seek innovative ways to care for the environment from water conservation methods to 6 acres of solar energy and a fleet of electric vehicles. Every effort is made to reduce waste and offer more sustainable packaging options.

Caring for People

To inspire others to live this life for a greater purpose.

Growing our fruit is not possible without the care and passion of our employees and farmworkers. We are proud to partner with Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) to provide transparency, innovation, and progress in the workplace. The EFI label is rooted in forward-thinking ideas ensuring the worker are treated well, compensated fairly, and engaged to identify problems and solutions that prevent food safety issues.

Caring for our Community

Going beyond the farm to enrich the lives of others.

We understand the importance of supporting the community that supports us. Internally, we’ve developed Cultivating Care a volunteer group where employees go above and beyond to care for the community. They host annual programs to provide meals to those in need, collect and distribute donations, as well as identify opportunities to give back.
