Reducing Food Waste with Harvest Rescue

A second Chance for Great Fruit

Not every piece of fruit makes it to the shelf—and not because it lacks flavor, freshness, or quality.

Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of appearance. Consumers often make purchasing decisions solely based on how a piece of fruit looks.

We believe great fruit deserves a home. That’s why we created Harvest Rescue, a stone fruit program designed to reduce food waste, support growers, and ensure more of what we grow is enjoyed.

What is it?

Harvest Rescue focuses on fruit that doesn’t meet traditional cosmetic standards but is still perfectly good to eat. These are pieces that may be slightly misshapen, sun-kissed, or just a little different—but inside, they’re just as sweet, juicy, and delicious.

Without programs like Harvest Rescue, this fruit often has limited options. It may be diverted to processing, frozen, or in some cases, not used at all. We saw an opportunity to do better.

Where you can find it

Our Harvest Rescue stone fruit is available at retailers nationwide. You can also find it online at Misfits Market

We invite you to shop with your heart and not your eyes, but just so you’re prepared, here are some characteristics you might see in the box:

  • scarring
  • misshapen
  • sunburn
  • staining

None of which affects the taste! Our Harvest Rescue program has potential for growth, but demand is dependent on consumers’ willingness to reach for fruit that isn’t picture-perfect.

Ways to use Harvest Rescue Fruit

Beyond these recipes, our stone fruit shines in a variety of pairings:

  • Eat it whole as a snack: This may sound obvious, but a misshapen or scarred peach or nectarine tastes the same as a picture perfect one!

  • Slice them up: Add some color and sweetness to your lunchbox with sliced stone fruit!

  • With protein: Wrap fresh peaches in prosciutto or pair with grilled chicken for a balanced meal.

  • In breakfast bowls: Top yogurt, overnight oats, or smoothie bowls with sliced plums for an Instagram-worthy upgrade.

  • In desserts: Bake apricots into tarts, cakes, or even blend into chia pudding.
