Homegrown Organic Farms Forms Exclusive Alliance with Additional Citrus Packing Facility in Riverside, CA
Porterville, CA (October 15th, 2008) – Homegrown Organic Farms is announcing the opening of an organic citrus packing facility in Riverside, CA.  The exclusive partnership with National Organic Packing will provide the needed capacity to handle the increases in production scheduled over the next two years.

National Organic Packing was built in 2006 to provide packing services for the growing organic supply of citrus.  The majority of their packing consists of Valencias.  Homegrown’s strong navel program coupled with a season long Valencia program makes them the industry leader for organic oranges.

Homegrown will operate two packing facilities, continuing the operation of Tule Specialty Packers in Porterville, CA.  Citrus will be shipped from the Riverside facility and from its main cold storage location in Arvin, CA. Flexibility in shipping locations will provide customers with advantages in logistics and transportation.

This year’s increases in production will include a full season organic Valencia program beginning in March and extending to the start of the Navel season at the end of October.  Organic red grapefruit during May, June and July will also be a new addition to Homegrown’s citrus offering.  Next season’s growth will double their current navel production with the majority of that increase in late navels.  This will allow Homegrown to market organic navels through the month of May.
